Shade for the days that earn it, shelter the rest of the time

Newlands doesn't get the relentless sun some suburbs do, but the old verandahs on the upper slopes were built for exactly this weather — deep, covered, meant to be used year-round. A folding-arm awning extends that same idea over a stone patio or an open verandah edge: shade on the afternoons that need it, retracted and out of the way for the months that don't.

What it's not is a rain product. Light drizzle at a pitch is fine; the kind of driving rain this slope gets through winter isn't something any fabric awning should be left out in.

Heritage-safe fixing

Older stone and timber verandah structures need their fixing points assessed properly rather than assumed — a bracket into soft heritage brick is a different job to one into a modern rendered wall. We check this at the measure, before anything's ordered.
